Dr SARA KAYAT

MBBS BSc MRCGP DFFP

 

Co-Founder of OurBreath Wellness and Medical Retreat. Dr Sara Kayat is a practicing GP at Gray’s Inn Medical Practice. Prior to this she worked at Balham Park Surgery, which featured on Channel 5’s GPs Behind Closed Doors. She is also This Morning’s resident GP on ITV.

She graduated from King’s College London in 2009 with a medical degree (MBBS) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc). She went on to become a junior doctor at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital followed by
Worthing Hospital. She then specialised in general practice, attaining her membership to the Royal College of GPs (MRCGP) having completed her 3 year GP training at St Georges Hospital in London. It was during these years that she developed a passion for surgical interests, sexual health, and lifestyle medicine, completing a Diploma of the Faculty of Family Planning, and later an accreditation for minor surgery and joint injections. She also practices cosmetic medicine and likes to keep up to date in the world of aesthetics.

She is an advocate of maintaining good mental health and regularly practices Mindfulness and yoga, and she has a keen interest in preventative medicine through lifestyle choices like exercise and nutrition. She enjoys extreme sports such as scuba diving, skiing and travelling as far as her air-miles will allow. Her love for travel and extreme environments came together when she took part in Channel 4’s Bear Grylls Celebrity Island, marooned on a dessert island for 4 weeks, learning to thrive and survive with fellow celebrities.

 

SHEREZADE RUANO

RN (CNs) MSc RYT

Sherezade is the Founder and Director of the TheBreathingPractice programme and Co-Founder of OurBreath Wellness and Medical Retreat. She holds a MSc in Cardiac Nursing and has extensive experience in the Cardiac Research Field. Fruit of her research work, Sherezade has been co-author in several studies in preventive medicine. She is currently a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Arrhythmias and independently runs clinics in the community where she promotes lifestyle interventions for improving cardiac health alongside with conventional medical management for heart disease and cardiac rhythm disturbances.

Sherezade trained as a Hatha Yoga Cardiac and Cancer Therapist in the US and has participated in several research programmes focused on preventive medicine targeted to cardiovascular disease. She has designed the protocols, methodologies and interventions for a cardiovascular programme aimed to improve and enhance patient’s health and wellbeing by combining yoga with modern medicine. Sherezade currently uses this approach in both her private clinic as well as in the NHS.

Her introduction to meditation and yoga started more than 10 years ago while still pursuing her career as a classical Ballet dancer, reason why her approach to yoga merges movement therapy, expression and experiential anatomy.

Sherezade lectures about the benefits of yoga and meditation for cardiac health in both prevention and rehabilitation. She has currently been invited to travel internationally sharing her knowledge with other healthcare professionals, yoga teachers and therapists, and patients.
